Identifying Mars
Mars is distinctive in its reddish color with dark splotchy markings and white polar cap. Mars sometimes gets quite bright. It could be confused with red stars, but through a telescope, its round disk is revealed. Stars never appear as disks in a telescope, only as small dots.
