This procedure worked for my Power Book with Mac OS X 10.4.6. 

1. For the program to work with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4), download J2SE 5.0 Release 4 (PPC) at
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/j2se50release4ppc.html
and install it.

2. Download the latest version of SalsaJ for Mac at:
http://www.euhou.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8&Itemid=10
(SalsaJ_V1.1-Mac.tgz) 1.7 Mb

3. Un-tar and unzip (e.g. with stuffit), and open the folder named SalsaJ.

4. To run, just double-click the file salsaj.jar inside the folder SalsaJ/

To get menu items to work, you need to click on the SalsaJ icon bar - it's a tad bit odd but not bad.
